Copper Complexes

Copper is a trace mineral essential for various physiological functions in the human body. It is crucial in energy production, iron metabolism, connective tissue formation, and neurotransmitter synthesis. Additionally, copper contributes to maintaining healthy bones, blood vessels, and immune function.

Dietary sources of copper include organ meats (liver, kidney), shellfish (oysters, crab), nuts (cashews, almonds), seeds (sunflower seeds, sesame seeds), whole grains, legumes, and dark chocolate. Copper can also be obtained from drinking water, but the amount varies depending on the source and treatment.

Copper deficiency is rare but can occur in individuals with malabsorption disorders, those undergoing gastric bypass surgery, or those consuming excessive amounts of zinc supplements, as zinc can interfere with copper absorption. Symptoms of copper deficiency may include fatigue, anaemia, bone abnormalities, neurological problems, and impaired immune function.
