What Supplements Should We Take? (Part 2)

Hi, I’m Hala Ali from Dietapplements, and today we’re tackling one of the most common questions I get asked: Do we need supplements, even if we feel healthy? Whether you're staring at a wall of bottles in the pharmacy or browsing online, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out which supplements you really need. So let’s break it down in this blog post.

Omega 3: The Supplement Your Brain Will Thank You For

Now, let’s talk about omega 3—another supplement that is often overlooked but is absolutely crucial for heart and brain health. Omega 3 helps with memory, focus, and concentration—things we all struggle with thanks to our modern, tech-heavy lifestyles. If you’re not getting two servings of oily fish per week (like salmon, mackerel, or herring), you’re probably not getting enough omega 3. And while foods like walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds can help, many people find it easier to take a supplement.

If you're not a fan of fish, or you're just not eating enough nuts and seeds, taking an omega 3 supplement can be a game changer. And don’t worry too much about where it comes from—most omega 3 supplements are produced under strict quality control, even if the ingredients are sourced internationally.

Do You Really Need Probiotics?

Finally, let’s touch on bio-cultures, sometimes referred to as probiotics or prebiotics. These are the good bacteria that help keep your gut healthy. While you can certainly take a supplement, you can easily get these benefits from your diet. Start your meals with fermented foods like sauerkraut, eat plenty of leafy greens, mushrooms, spinach, and other veggies, and you’ll be on your way to a healthy gut without needing to buy additional probiotics.

However, if you’ve recently taken antibiotics, then a probiotic supplement can help restore balance in your gut.

Conclusion

Remember, supplements are just that—supplements. They’re there to support a healthy lifestyle, not replace one. So aim for balanced meals, but don’t stress if you need a little extra help from time to time.
